Dear colleagues, dear GDCh members,

 

This year, from 4 to 6 September 2023, the GDCh will hold the next Science Forum (WiFo) Chemistry, the most important chemistry congress in the German-speaking world, in Leipzig. I cordially invite you to attend.

 

Rethinking Chemistry will be the guiding theme next year, which the Board has also chosen as the motto for 2022 and 2023. For me, Rethinking Chemistry is not just a slogan, but a guiding principle that drives me in my daily work. Rethinking Chemistry is more important than ever in order to meet the most urgent challenges of our time, such as climate change, energy scarcity and new legislation (European Green Deal). In line with the diverse tasks, Rethinking Chemistry is of course not a "one-fits-all solution". Each area of chemistry can and must make its own contribution to meeting these challenges. And WiFo 2023 will show how many valuable contributions chemistry can make.

 

Two plenary symposia will also pick up on the motto of the Science Forum, which will be held under the themes of

- Rethinking Chemistry - Concepts and

- Rethinking Chemistry - Sustainability Strategies

​

You can look forward to the inspiring speakers we have been able to attract for these plenary symposia. In addition, the division lectures will not be neglected, so that you can also keep you up-to-date of the latest developments in your field. The topics Synthesis and Catalysis, Materials, Energy, Resources and Environment, Life Sciences, Chemistry Education and Interdisciplinary Symposia will cover the broad spectrum of chemistry and show where we can contribute to contemporary solutions to current problems in cooperation with other sciences.

 

In order to give a face to our science, we will again award numerous renowned prizes at the WiFo and thus show that commitment is worthwhile. A ChemSlam and events by our career service are also on the programme. And besides all the scientific aspects, our WiFo will also be fun. You will have plenty of opportunity for personal exchange and networking, be it during the coffee breaks, the poster session or during the science party.
